New Year, New Website: The 2026 Digital Checklist for Small Businesses

January is when gym memberships spike - and when smart business owners give their digital presence the same treatment. Here is the checklist we run for our own clients every new year, in order of impact.

The 10-point check

1. Open your website on your phone. Slow, broken or squint-worthy? That is job one. 2. Google your business name - check what shows, including reviews. 3. Google what you sell - are you anywhere on page one? 4. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile. 5. Check your contact details everywhere - one wrong phone number in a directory hurts local SEO.

6. Renew domains and check SSL - an expired certificate scares off every visitor. 7. Update your prices and opening hours on the site. 8. Look at last year's most-visited pages in Analytics - do more of what worked. 9. Test your contact form. You would be amazed how many silently fail for months. 10. Back everything up - and confirm the backup actually restores.

Pick one thing

Don't attempt all ten in one week. Pick the item that made you wince while reading and fix it properly. If more than three made you wince, it may be time for a bigger conversation - our January diaries always fill with exactly these.
