Instagram for Local Businesses: A Realistic 2026 Playbook

Most Instagram advice is written for influencers, not for a salon in Poole or a builder in Bournemouth. Here is the playbook we actually run for local business accounts - no dance trends required.

Three content pillars, on rotation

Proof: finished work, before/after, happy customers (with permission). People: the faces behind the counter - consistently the best-performing content for local accounts. Practical: answers to the questions customers ask you every week. Rotate the three and you will never stare at a blank caption again.

The rhythm that works

Three feed posts and five stories a week beats a fortnight of silence followed by a guilt-burst of six posts. Batch content monthly: one hour with a phone camera in your business produces weeks of material. Reels get the reach in 2026 - a 15-second clip of real work is enough.

Local reach, not global vanity

Tag your location on everything. Use town-level hashtags, engage with neighbouring businesses, and collaborate - a cafe and a florist sharing each other's stories reach exactly the right local audience. Follower counts flatter; enquiries from people within driving distance pay bills.

And when someone messages - reply fast. Instagram is a front door now, not a gallery. If keeping it all going is the bottleneck, that is literally what our management plans are for.
